Robin Trower – Bridge of Sighs [50th Anniversary Edition]

Available on 3CD/1Bluray Set, 2xLP & Stereo/Atmos through Digital Outlets

Released by Chrysalis Records, 17th May 2024

Chrysalis Records are proud to present the most expansive version of Bridge of Sighs to date in celebra8on of the album’s

50th Anniversary.

Following his departure from 1960’s baroque rockers Procol Harum, the excep8onally giIed guitarist Robin Trower set

sail on forging a solo career and in doing so assembled a new band bringing in James Dewar on vocal and bass duty, and

Reg Isidore on drums. The new power trio set the tone on Robin’s 1973 debut solo LP Twice Removed From Yesterday,

but it was the follow up, 1974’s Bridge of Sighs that would catapult Trower into an interna8onal guitar hero.

Recorded in just over 2 weeks at Olympic and Air studios in London under the auspices of Trower’s former Procol

bandmate, producer Matthew Fisher, Bridge of Sighs also benefited greatly from the presence of famed Beatles

engineer Geoff Emerick who brought with him a whole array of recording techniques that greatly inspired Trower. “He

came up with a way of recording the guitar I don’t think had been done before,” Trower says. “It was a big room and he

had one mic in close, one mic set in the middle distance, and one mic set fifteen feet away to get the sound of the room.

That was a very big factor in how the song and the whole album sounds.”

Bridge of Sighs is a titanic sounding rock album featuring some truly mesmerising guitar from Trower. The title track and

gems such as ‘Day of the Eagle’, ‘Too Rolling Stoned’, ‘In This Place’ and ‘Little Bit of Sympathy’ and the exquisite ‘Lady

Love’ are outstanding numbers with Trower’s guitar playing right up there with the most celebrated guitar gods of the

era. Toto’s Steve Lukather observes ““In 1974, I got the album Bridge of Sighs and it blew my mind. I was

devouring everything guitar based as I was an up-and coming player, and the sound of Robin’s guitar hit my soul. The

tone-touch and feel was so incredible”.

Critically applauded upon release, Bridge of Sighs became a radio staple in the US, where the album reached No. 7, and

helped establish Trower as one of the big touring a_rac8ons of the mid-‘70s.

This newly expanded 50th Anniversary edi8on includes a remaster of the original 1974 album, along with brand new

unedited stereo and Atmos mixes, rari8es and previously unavailable ou_akes and the full concert from the Record

Plant, Sausalito, 1974.

The new 2024 stereo mix was conducted by Richard Whi_aker (The Who, Thin Lizzy, Traffic, UFO) and overseen by

Robin himself. The thrill of going back to the original mul8track, Robin discovered all the various takes and full-length

versions of tracks from the album. The tracks on the original 1974 album were edited down to fit the limita8ons of a

side of vinyl. With Robin’s encouragement, we have restored the full unedited versions of each track for the first 8me,

which brings a new listening experience, showcasing the clarity and depth to the recordings.

In addi8on, there are a host of alterna8ve and ou_ake versions, which are presented across the various CDs and Bluray

disc in this set.

The Bluray itself, includes the new Unedited Album in Atmos and 5.1 Surround Mixes for the first 8me, with hi-res

audio of the original 1974 and unedited mixes of the album, addi8on ou_akes (not included on the CD) and the full

Record Plant concert.

The 2LP heavyweight vinyl edi8on includes both the new 2024 Unedited Stereo Mix and the full Record Plant live

recording.

The CD package includes a 24-page booklet featuring newly wri_en liner notes by David Sinclair (The Times) with

newly conducted interviews with Robin Trower and producer Ma_hew Fisher, new tes8monials by Bryan Ferry, Robert

Fripp (King Crimson), Steve Lukather (Toto), Clive Bunker (Jethro Tull), Andy Parker (UFO) and the album cover designer

Paul Olsen, alongside previously unseen photographs.
